Guanyin Bodhisattva/ Avalokiteśvara

If you do not want to immigrate to the Pure Land, then you do not need to recite the names of the Three Saints; if you want to immigrate to the Pure Land Sukhāvatī and live there, you must recite the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva, which can avoid the three disasters and seven calamities during your lifetime, and you can be reborn in the Pure Land Sukhāvatī when you die. The best of both worlds, why not do it?

When we chant the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva, we chant until we become one with Guanyin Bodhisattva and cannot be separated. At that time, even if we do not want to go to the Pure Land Sukhāvatī, it will be impossible. Why? Because the roots have been planted, they will grow branches, leaves, flowers and fruits in the future.

Question: Why does Master exhort people chant Guānyīn Bodhisattva?

Master Hsuan-Hua answers:

Because in the Sad-dharma-vipralopa, the Māra is strong and the Dharma is weak. Guānyīn Bodhisattva has a great vow to save all sentient beings with compassion.

Sad-dharma-vipralopa
Definition:
The last of the three periods; that of degeneration and extinction of the Buddha-Dharma.
