Zen Master Linji was walking behind Zen Master Huangbo. Zen Master Huangbo looked back and found that Zen Master Linji had nothing on his hands, so he said to him:
'Why did you forget to bring your hoe? '
Zen Master Linji replied: 'I wonder who took it?'
Zen Master Huangbo stopped and said: 'Come over here, I have something to discuss with you. '
Zen Master Linji stepped forward, and Zen Master Huangbo put up his hoe and said:'Just "this", no one in the world can lift it up. '...
As soon as Zen Master Linji heard this, he immediately snatched the hoe from Zen Master Huangbo without any courtesy, held it tightly in his hand, and said: 'Just now the teacher said that no one can hold "this", why is "this" in my hand now? '
Zen Master Huangbo said: 'What having in hand, not sure having, what I don't have in my hand, not necessarily none. You say, who will plow the fields for us today?'
Zen Master Linji said: 'Let him who plows the field plow the field; Let him who reaps the harvest reap. What does it have to do with us?'
After Zen Master Linji said this, Zen Master Huangbo didn't say a word, turned around and returned to the monastery.
Soon, Zen Master Guishan asked Zen Master Yangshan about this matter. 'Why was the hoe in the hands of Zen Master Huangbo taken away by Linji? '
Zen Master Yangshan replied: 'Although the person who grabbed by force is villain, his wisdom is superior to that of a gentleman.'
Zen Master Guishan asked Yangshan again: 'Plowing and harvesting, why does Linji say it is none of his business? '
Zen Master Yangshan did not answer, but asked: 'Can't it be transcendent? Go beyond relationships of opposites.'
Zen Master Weishan turned around and returned to the monastery without saying a word.
Zen Master Huangbo's turning around, Zen Master Weishan's turning around, the world that has turned around is a world that affirms everything. People in the world talk a lot when they are reasonable, and even more when they are unreasonable. If we could turn around before the truth, wouldn't there be another world?
