Chapter 12 Touching God
Twenty-two The mountain of meat becomes empty
In the Tang Dynasty, there was a young general in Xiangzhou named Sun Xian. One day he died suddenly and it took him a night to wake up. When Sun Xian was led into the underworld by the underworld messenger, he saw Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Soon, a Rong king entered the palace with hundreds of guards. King Yan interrogated him for a while, and Sun Xian saw the Rong king being swept away by the strong wind.
After a while, he saw King Yan reviewing the good and evil of another person's life. This person often recited the Diamond Sutra, but liked to eat meat. There were thousands of scrolls on the left side, and a mountain of meat on the right side. Because there was so much meat, King Yan wanted to sentence him to a serious crime. Suddenly a spark burst out from the pile of sutras and flew towards the pile of meat mountains. In an instant, the mountains of meat were completely eliminated and the man flew into the sky.
Sun Xian asked Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva: "Where was that Rong King just blown by the wind?"
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva told him: "That king should go to the Avīci (Interminable Hell). The wind just now was the wind of karma."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva led Sun Xian to see the hell. The sound of smoke and flames inside the prison door was as terrifying as wind and thunder! Sun Xian was too frightened to look further. On the way back, passing through the Soup Cooking Hell, Sun Xian was accidentally hit by a drop of boiling soup on his left thigh. The pain reached his heart and lungs, then Ksitigarbha sent an underworld official to escort Sun Xian back to the earth.
