Instructions on not eating meat in Buddhist Sutras
Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra, abstain from eating meat
That fool claims to be a teacher of the precepts and says that people are allowed to eat meat in the Vinaya precepts, and also slanders me by saying that the Tathāgata himself eat meat, then that fool will become a great sinner and will fall into a place where there is no benefit, no saint, and will not listen to the Dharma for long night, cannot see the present and future sage disciples, how much more can he see the Buddhas and Tathāgata?
Mahāmati, there is no meat in the world, is not caused by suicide or homicide. If your mind has no doubt that the meat is caused by killing, then you can eat it. For this reason, I allow the Śrāvaka to eat such meat.
Mahāmati, there will be foolish people in the future world, become a monk in my Dharma, talking nonsense about the Vinaya precepts and disrupting the righteous Dharma. They slander me by saying that I said eating meat is allowed, and I also once eat meat.
Mahāmati, If I allow the Śrāvaka to eat meat, I am not a compassionate person who practice Samatha and practice Dhutanga enter Mahāyāna. Why do I advise good men and women to think of all sentient beings as their sons and to stop eating all meat?
Mahāmati, I have said in various places that ten kinds should be avoided and three kinds are allowed. The purpose is to let disciples gradually stop eating meat and study. Now in this sutra, it is mentioned that there are suicides and homicides, and all meat are all forbidden. Mahāmati, I have never allowed my disciples to eat meat. Neither is it granted now, nor is it granted in the future. Mahāmati, all meat-eating is considered unclean for monks.
The four pure and clear teachings of Śūraṅgama Sūtra
After my Nirvāṇa, in the Sad-dharma-vipralopa, there are so many these kinds of ghosts and Gods in the world who claim that eating meat leads to Bodhi way. Ananda, I permit the Bhikshus to eat five kinds of pure flesh. This flesh is all transformed by my divine power which basically has no life-roots. You Brahmans live in a climate so hot and humid, and on such sandy and rocky land, that vegetables will not grow. I added the divine power of great compassion, and due to great compassion, I assumed the name of flesh, and you gained its flavor.
However, those who eat the flesh of living beings after the Tathāgata's Nirvana are called disciples of Śākyamuni. All you should know that: Carnivorous people, even if their hearts are as open as Samadhi, they are all mighty Rakshas, and when their retribution ends, they will definitely sink into the bitter sea of life and death in the end. They are not disciples of Buddha. Such people, kill and eat each other in a never-ending cycle. How can such people transcend the Three Realm?
Bodhisattva Good Precepts Sutra
In order to destroy all kinds of evils (destroy troubles) in sentient beings, Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Adhiṣṭhāna divine mantras, read or recite them clearly and quickly, and benefits all sentient beings. For the sake of the mantra spell, five dharma are observed: One, don't eat meat. Second, don't drink alcohol. Third, do not eat the five pungent foods. Fourth, do not engage in sexual intercourse; fifth, do not eat in an unclean house. Bodhisattva have enough of these five dharmas, which can greatly benefit countless sentient beings, and all evil spirits, poisons, and diseases can be cured.
