The Venerable Master Hsuan-Hua gave a lecture on Obstructed labour
When a woman gives birth to a child, some of them are very difficult to give birth, and the child cannot be born in a day, or in two days, or even three or five days. Oh, at this time, this woman was in the most pain. Why is she like this? It's because there are demons and ghosts and monsters obstruct her, and it's very painful for her to bear.
I remember that when I was observe mourning for my mother's grave in Northeast China, I met a woman surnamed Tang who gave birth to a child for three days and did not give birth, and then they came to me to ask for advice on how to give birth easily. I taught them to recite the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva and the Great Compassion Mantra. It didn't take long to recite it and sure enough, she gave birth, but the child was already dead, and there was nothing happened to the adults. So, this is all Guanyin Bodhisattva has a special response. Then, at the time of giving birth, if you sincerely recite the Great Compassion Dharani Mantra, the ghosts and gods will run away when they hear it, and they will scatter, and there will be no danger.
